Yet the lack of visibility into activity and information flow, coupled with the dynamic nature of relationships and interactions, makes flow difficult to understand, much less engineer, in a large, complex organization.

Meanwhile, the explosive growth of global-scale computer networks has enabled unparalleled collaboration and operational performance under extremely harsh and complex conditions.
